CAIRO MUSEUMS

Egyptian Museum:
North of Midan Tahrir. Admission is 10 Egyptian pounds, or 5 for students with a student card. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, but closes between 11:15 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Fridays. Cameras have to be left at the front desk unless you wish to pay an extra 10 Egyptian pounds for permission, video cameras costs 100 Egyptian pounds. There are official guides who will take you around for about 5 Egyptian pounds per hour.

Coptic Museum:
Situated in Old Cairo, the museum houses a rare collection of ancient Christian relics including remains of architectural works, textiles, icons and old manuscripts reflecting the history of Coptic civilization.

The Museum of Islamic Art: (Bab al-Khalq Square)
It is regarded as the largest museum in the Middle East, housing 80,000 rare objects dating from the dawn of Islam to the Ottoman period.


Entomological Society Museum:
14 Sharia Ramses. It’s open from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. daily except Friday, and also from 6 to 9 p.m. on Saturday, Monday and Wednesday.

Egyptian National Railways Museum:
A sign outside the main entrance to Ramses Station leads you to the museum at one end of the station. The museum is open daily except Monday from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is 1.50 Egyptian pounds, or 3 on Fridays and holidays.

Manyal Palace Museum:
The Manyal Palace Museum is on your left after you take Sharia Ali Ibrahim across the canal to Roda Island. The palace is open daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and admission is 5 Egyptian pounds, or 2.50 for students. Photography permits are 10 Egyptian pounds.

Museum of Modern Art:
Housed in a new building in the grounds of the Opera House. The museum is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 9:30 p.m., except Friday and Monday, when it is closed. Admission is 10 Egyptian pounds, or 5 for students.


Mohammed Mahmoud Khalil Museum:
1 Sharia ash-Sheikh Marsafy, is opposite the entrance to the Gezira Club.
The museum is open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and admission is 1 Egyptian pound, or 50 piastres for students.

Moukhtar Museum:
This museum is on the left side of Sharia At-Tahrir, just before you cross Al-Galaa Bridge to Doqqi. It is open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 5 to 9 p.m. daily, except Monday, when it is closed. The entrance fee is 2 Egyptian pounds, or 1 for students.
